This NFL season, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff is donating $1,000 to California Strong for every touchdown he throws, in partnership with Genesis of Glendale. Established last November by Milwaukee Brewers players Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun and Mike Moustakas, along with Goff and other community partners, California Strong is an initiative to raise funds for those recovering from recent tragedies in the Golden State, including wildfires, last year’s fatal shooting at the Borderline Bar and Grill, and the recent Santa Cruz boat fire.
With over 13,000 homes and over 100 lives lost in the wildfires alone, Goff, Yelich, Braun and Moustakas vowed to support affected communities after seeing the extent of the devastation. Southern California, the site of the Woolsey fire, is home to all four athletes, with Braun losing part of his Malibu residence in the blaze. A native Californian, Goff continues to lend his support to the initiative.
“I am proud to provide season-long support for CA Strong to assist families in need following a crisis,” said Goff. “While handing out grants to families following the Woolsey and Hill fires, I witnessed firsthand the impact CA Strong is having on those in need. I am committed to CA Strong and its mission.”
Since its founding, the California Strong initiative has raised nearly $2.2 million and supported more than 650 families in need. With 11 regular season games to go, Goff is only getting started with his seven touchdowns and current pledge of $7,000. Even if the Rams aren’t your team, we all have good reason to root for Jared Goff this season.
