During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on April 2, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes announced the launch of "15 and the Mahomies," his new charitable foundation that focuses on improving the lives of children through health, education, and other resources.
The foundation's signature 15 for 15 program will promote positive youth development and well-being by supporting initiatives focused in a variety of areas, such as academics, science, the arts, athletics, children with disabilities, after-school programs and more. Serving as a pass-through organization, 15 and the Mahomies will work with an advisory group of local political and business leaders to raise funds for other charitable organizations in the Kansas City area.
“It’s a foundation that’s designed all around kids, kids from either under-served communities that don’t have the same opportunities I had when I was young, or kids that are in the hospital who have chronic illnesses or have suffered major injuries," stated Mahomes. "Because those kids are the ones that train harder than me by 100 times every single day, and I want to make sure I can give back to them in any shape and any way in order to give them the resources they need to have an amazing life.”
In addition to establishing his foundation, Mahomes has involved himself in other recent community activities too. This past September, Mahomes and his Chiefs teammates stopped by the University of Kansas Medical Center to visit with doctors, families and cancer patients. Additionally, in October 2018, Mahomes helped build homes with Veterans Community Project, which specializes in building “tiny homes” for homeless veterans in Kansas City.
Becoming a league leader in touchdown passes last season, with his 50th touchdown completed on an 89-yard pass, the 23-year old NFL MVP is quickly making his mark both on and off the field!
